5th Avenida near Calle 4

Karen's is one of those big 5th Avenida restaurants that caters largely to tourists (especially Mexican ones). The restaurant sports a Bennigans-like atmosphere ... clean, friendly, but a bit empty feeling.
Prices tend to be very expensive - about $10 for 3 steak tacos. The food is bland and greasy and generally not too good. It is generally not up to American standards.
Karen's serves a breakfast buffet, but it is not available after 11am (even if the sign is still up outside - they intentionally do this to lure more tourists in).

We ate a Karen's on 3/17/08. I have to admit the service was ok but the food was not what I expected. My dad and I got the Filet Mignon and it was not that. I don't know what cut of meat it was but it was really fatty and chewy. It could be that Filets in Playa are not what we would get here in the states, but either way I didn't eat very much of it. The shrimp cocktail was wierd too, it was in a tomato sauce, almost soupy. I think if you stick to the mexican food it's good. The nachos were really good. And the bathrooms are nice. I didn't think it was over priced since most touristy restaurants on fifth ave. had the same price. Does anyone know if they have a website to contact the owner's??
