This centrally located hotel will appeal to hip and trendy partygoers as well as those looking for an exotic romantic getaway.
5th Avenida near Calle 12
Downtown
Situated upon a nearly unmarked rough-hewn stone staircase reminiscent of a mayan pyramid, the Hotel Deseo is a small boutique hotel catering to travelers in the know.
The young and trendy will love it here. During the day, Deseo is a serene oasis from the tourists crowding fifth Avenida below. Here you can relax in one of the two pools or bask in the sun while sipping drinks from the bar (starting around noon). At sundown the young and beautiful arrive, where they will stay until the bar closes (around 1am).
The minimalist rooms are tastefully decorated and wonderfully romantic. Sparse mood lighting, wispy fabrics which billow in the wind, and a sultry mix of Lounge and Latin music combine to lend the hotel an exotic, perhaps even an erotic atmosphere. "Deseo" means desire in Spanish, and the hotel certainly lives up to its name.
Hanging on the wall in each room are some items of clothing for sale, such as a small tank top, a straw hat, and sandals. You’ll also find an in-room supply of snacks and beverages, including a bottle of champagne, beer, Red Bull, and an array of hard liquor... enough to keep the party going into the wee hours of the night. And surprisingly, the minibar beverages are dirt cheap! Deseo also offers a small room service menu consisting of light comfort food such as chips and guacamole, hamburgers, and even good french fries (which are hard to find in Playa).
This hotel is a perfect choice for couples and honeymooners seeking to enjoy each other's company. It is not family-friendly (nor are children allowed). Plan on staying up late each evening - the noise from the crowds outside can be loud and doesn't die down until after midnight.
Tip: The clothing for sale in the rooms is expensive, so bring a straw hat from home if you plan on wearing one.

I looked everywhere in Playa for the "bed bar" and NO ONE had heard of it. Because they don't even tell you there, what you are getting in to. They call it the Deseo Lounge...because that is what you do. On a roof top there is a small pool, a dj playing a great mix of ambiant music to chill to, and BEDS! You are brought a tray for your bed and a bill for what must be the most expensive drinks in town....10 dollars for a martini, but it was totally worth the price for the experience!
There was something quite european feeling here. People were dressed better, but of course, not OVER dressed.
