PLAYA DEL CARMEN TRAVEL TIPS

Not sure what to wear in Playa? This quick guide will enlighten you.

During the summer months, it is difficult to walk around during the day due to the extreme heat and humidity. If you must go out, wear as little clothing as possible and bring water with you. It's not quite as unbearable between November and June, but shorts are generally recommended.

It cools off rapidly in the evenings, but during the summer it will generally be too warm for pants. The best choice would be a cotton shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.

The dress is very casual in Playa. Generally, people do not dress up to go out (although it is common for people to go home and change from their day clothes before going out, simply as a matter of personal hygiene). To visitors from big cities such as New York, Chicago, and LA it might seem natural to dress up at night, but you will generally stick out in Playa should you do so.

Required Clothing:

* Cotton shorts
* Cotton or linen shirts
* Flip flops
* gym shoes
* sunglasses
* cotton skirts
* sun dresses
* straw hats
* baseball hats
* Khaki pants (one pair, should it get too cool at night for shorts)

Not required (and discouraged):

* formal wear (suits, shirts with ties)
* jeans
* jackets or coats
* sweaters
